How the Linear Feet Feature for Site Measurement Works 📏
Not every measurement is an area. Hedge rows, edging, fencing, and curbs are measured by length, not by square footage. With the Linear Feet (lin ft) feature, you can draw a line on the job site map, see its length in feet, and keep it separate from your square footage (sq ft) areas, on the web and in the mobile apps.
This article explains how linear feet measures work and how to draw them from the Arborgold Crew app.
🧭 The Basics
- Two unit types. Every Custom Measure has a unit: sq ft (an area) or lin ft (a line). New measures default to sq ft, the same as before.
- Lines are measured, not filled. A lin ft measure is made of one or more lines. Each line shows its length in feet, and the measure's total is the sum of its lines.
- Lengths are shown to 2 decimal places (for example, 19,631.25 ft).
- Everything stays in sync. A line drawn on the web appears, with its length, when you open the job site on mobile. A line you edit on mobile shows the change on the web.
✏️ Draw a Line in the Crew App
- Open the job site and go to the Measuring Tool.
- Select a lin ft measure from the Measures list, or tap Add New to create one (see below).
- Tap the Line tool on the map toolbar. This tool appears only when the selected measure is lin ft.
- Tap the map to place each point along the hedge row, edging, or other path. You need at least two points.
- Double-tap to finish the line. Its length in feet appears on the map as a label.
- Tap a line to adjust it. You can drag its points to correct the length while you are on site.
➕ Create a Linear Feet Measure
In the Crew app: Tap Add New in the Measuring Tool, enter a name, and choose lin ft in the unit dropdown (sq ft is the default).
On the web: Open the Custom Measures list, add a measure, and choose its unit. A saved Custom Measure keeps the unit it was created with, so choose carefully when you create it.
🐞 Bug Fixes
- AJTA-23213 – Service Completion Confirmation Email Sent to Wrong Customer: Fixed an issue where a service completion confirmation email sent from the Crew app could go to the wrong customer. The email is now sent to, and logged under, the customer and job it was triggered from.
- AJTA-23284 – Delivery Can Be Created Without a Delivery Time: Fixed an issue where a delivery could be added with no Delivery Time selected. Delivery Time now behaves consistently with the Cloud application.
- AJTA-23369 – Tracks Not Generated When Clocking Out from Review Time or Complete Services: Fixed an issue where employees were not properly clocked out from the Review Time or Complete Services pages, so no Track was created. Tracks are now generated on clock-out.
- AJTA-23301 – Clearer Feedback When Deleting an Entire Chat: Improved the chat deletion experience, which previously showed no confirmation or progress. Users now get clear feedback, and the deleted chat is removed from the list.
- AJTA-23471 – Crew App Crash When Entering Weather Temperature: Fixed an issue where the Crew app could crash when a temperature was entered in the weather update screen. Temperature entry now works without errors.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I mix lines and areas in the same measure?
No. A measure is either lin ft (lines) or sq ft (areas). In the Crew app, Edit, Copy, Move, and Add New only offer measures of the same type as what you drew, so a line can't end up in a sq ft measure and an area can't end up in a lin ft measure.
Why don't I see the Line tool?
The Line tool shows only when the selected measure is lin ft. If a sq ft measure is selected, you see the area tools (polygon, rectangle, circle) instead. If no measure is selected, all tools are shown. The tools may take a moment to appear while measure types load.
How do I finish a line?
Double-tap the map after placing at least two points. Leaving the Line tool also saves a line that already has two or more points.
How is the length calculated?
Arborgold measures the distance along the line you drew on the map and shows it in feet. Each line is saved to 2 decimal places, so the measure's total always equals the sum of its lines.
Can I draw a line on the web and edit it on my phone (or the other way around)?
Yes. Lines are saved with the job site, so both versions show the same line and length.
Can I change a measure from sq ft to lin ft after I create it?
On the web, a saved Custom Measure keeps the unit chosen when it was created. If you need the other unit, create a new measure.
Do my existing measurements change?
No. Existing area measures stay in sq ft and display the same as before.
